{"id":53438,"date":"2017-07-28T09:09:52","date_gmt":"2017-07-28T07:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/adult\/space-wins-best-presentation-award-at-international-conference-on-physical-activity-health-and-wellness\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T09:22:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T08:22:24","slug":"space-wins-best-presentation-award-at-international-conference-on-physical-activity-health-and-wellness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/adult\/space-wins-best-presentation-award-at-international-conference-on-physical-activity-health-and-wellness\/","title":{"rendered":"SPAcE Wins Best Presentation Award at International Conference on Physical Activity, Health and Wellness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The project <a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/space\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">SPAcE &#8211; Supporting Policy and Action for Active Environments<\/a> &#8211; which aims to <strong>integrate active transport programmes<\/strong> incorporating walking and cycling<strong> into public policy and practise across Europe<\/strong>, has won the best presentation award at the <strong>ICPAHW 2017: 19th International Conference on Physical Activity, Health and Wellness<\/strong> in <strong>Rome<\/strong> on<strong> 17<sup>th<\/sup> and 18<sup>th<\/sup> July 2017<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The conference was organised by the <a href=\"http:\/\/waset.org\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\"><strong><em>World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0&#8211; WASET &#8211; and was the <strong>premier interdisciplinary forum<\/strong> for the presentation of <strong>new advances and research results in the fields of Physical Activity, Health and Wellness<\/strong>. The conference brought together leading academic scientists, researchers, scholars and practitioners from around the world including Italy, Turkey, Taiwan, Korea, Chile, Australia, France, Ivory Coast, Georgia, Poland, Lithuania and Egypt, to <strong>present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends<\/strong>, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of Physical Activity, Health and Wellness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CESIE<\/strong> as partner in SPAcE, which brings together local government, non-profit and academic partners from 8 EU countries <strong>presented the main results of the project<\/strong> which was first submitted by CESIE as a paper abstract, <strong><em>Promoting Physical Activity through Urban Active Environments: Learning from Practice and Policy Implementation in the EU Space Project<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>CESIE exchanged and shared the project <strong>methodology, research results and main conclusions<\/strong> to conference participants which to date have been the production of a report, <a href=\"http:\/\/activeenvironments.eu\/download\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Environments for physical activity in Europe a review of evidence and examples of practice<\/strong><\/a>, following a <strong>review of good practice including 24 case studies<\/strong> from across the EU and project partner countries focused on the implementation and challenges for developing active environments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/media\/space-review-evidence-examples-practice.pdf\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Read the SPAcE report!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This process has led to the development of 5 <strong>Urban Active Environments (UActivE) Action Plans<\/strong> with actions and specific goals to address low levels of physical activity and to promote physical activity-friendly environments in <strong>5 European cities\/towns<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trikala (Greece),<\/li>\n<li>Castilla-La Mancha (Spain),<\/li>\n<li>Palermo (Italy),<\/li>\n<li>Brasov (Romania),<\/li>\n<li>Tukums (Latvia).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UActivE Plans<\/strong> are aimed at <strong>influencing policy and practice for increasing the physical activity level<\/strong> of the involved communities primarily through the use of walking and cycling and to raise awareness of t<strong>he importance of health-enhancing physical activity<\/strong> through enhancing and promoting sustainable urban active environments.
