The integration of refugees in the labour market<\/strong> has crucial importance for their better integration to the European society. Furthermore, refugees\u2019 employment could be a solution for a wide range of problems that European labour markets currently suffer from, e.g. skill shortage<\/strong> \u2013 especially in rural areas, ageing workforces<\/strong>, or the lack of motivated apprentices<\/strong>. In these circumstances, refugees represent an important resource of human capital for European enterprises.<\/p>\n

However, many European employers are still hesitant to employ refugees and HR managers may lack specific competences and tools <\/strong>needed for successful interaction with refugees.<\/p>\n

European project REST<\/a> intends to fill this gap and make employing refugees and their work integration easier for employers.<\/p>\n

During the first phase of the project, quantitative and qualitative research conducted among European employers and experts emerged some barriers, challenges and concerns<\/strong> linked to refugees\u2019 employment<\/strong>. Employers, for example, expressed their concern about refugees\u2019 unclear legal, professional and personal situation, increased workload and linguistic barriers. REST partners were also exploring which benefits<\/strong> related to refugees\u2019 work integration<\/strong> employers perceive and what are their training needs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

REST Partners presented and discussed main research findings during the second partners\u2019 meeting which took place in Roubaix, France, on July 6th \u2013 7th. Based on the employers\u2019 training needs identified during the research, REST partners drafted a comprehensive training package <\/strong>tailored for small and medium enterprises<\/strong> and organisations to support them during employing and integrating refugees<\/strong> at their workplaces.<\/p>\n

The project partners agreed on the structure and contain of training modules including Legal framework<\/strong>, Intercultural competencies<\/strong>, Identification<\/strong>, recruitment<\/strong> and induction<\/strong> of refugees, Mentoring<\/strong> and learning on the job<\/strong>, and Tools facilitating communication<\/strong> at work reducing the language barrier.<\/p>\n

In the course of next months, the training content will be created and structured in the form of workshops<\/strong>, e-learning<\/strong>, learning materials<\/strong> and online platform<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

REST – Refugee Employment Support and Training<\/a> is a two-year-project funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF<\/strong>) of the European Union.<\/p>\n
