How to encourage curiosity in children<\/strong> towards science<\/strong>? How to improve educational methods<\/strong> and increase teachers transversal skills<\/strong>?
\nThanks to the SciLit <\/a><\/strong>project \u2013<\/a> Scientific literacy at the school: improving strategies and building new practices of science teaching in early years education <\/a><\/strong>– it is possible to introduce scientific concepts in primary school<\/strong> and develop tools for teachers<\/strong> and educators to support of the primary scientific teaching.<\/p>\n

The second meeting<\/strong> between partners has been a wonderful opportunity to share<\/strong> the scientific experiments<\/strong> conducted in the last months in elementary schools and kindergartens of the involved nations.\u00a0The meeting took place from 25th<\/sup> \u00a0to 27th<\/sup> June in Centrum Edukacji Nauczycieli<\/a>, Bydgoszcz (northern Poland). Following the instructions provided by CSIC- Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas<\/a>, the project partners showed through video and technical documents<\/strong> the approach used to develop students scientific skills starting from primary schools.<\/p>\n

An atom<\/strong> composed of pupils from a whole class who moved following the composition of protons, neutrons and electrons: these was one of the creative science simulations<\/strong>. \u00a0The reaction of children to these input was recorded in countries such as Spain, Poland, Estonia and Lithuania.<\/p>\n

Through the use of music, video, games and paintings, not only children’s ability to discover<\/strong>, but also teachers’ skills<\/strong> in finding innovative and engaging learning systems has grown<\/strong>.\u00a0In addition, through excursions<\/strong> and visits to scientific laboratories<\/strong>, it was possible to deepen two aspects of the project: “How is the world made”<\/strong><\/em> and “Archeology”<\/strong><\/em>, which are the main learning modules selected. \u00a0While experimenting, looking for information, observing, doing practical tasks, playing games, children themselves are trying to discover the truths of natural science through analysis and conclusions.<\/p>\n

In view of the next meeting in Palermo on 6th<\/sup> November, the next tasks are focused on the sustainability of results that SciLit has been set up since the beginning.<\/p>\n

The SciLit project\u00a0 is co-funded by the Erasmus+<\/strong> Program, Key Action 2 – Strategic Partnerships for school Education<\/a> \u2013 with the main aim \u00a0to go one step ahead on the way science is taught in the early stages and to develop necessary tools to facilitate the teaching of science.<\/p>\n
