{"id":53242,"date":"2017-03-06T10:00:27","date_gmt":"2017-03-06T09:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/adult\/space-palermo-selected-as-a-european-good-practice-on-urban-physical-activity\/"},"modified":"2026-03-12T13:18:28","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T12:18:28","slug":"space-palermo-selected-as-a-european-good-practice-on-urban-physical-activity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/adult\/space-palermo-selected-as-a-european-good-practice-on-urban-physical-activity\/","title":{"rendered":"SPAcE: Palermo selected as a European good practice on urban physical activity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Palermo\u00a0have been selected as an example<strong>\u00a0of good practices across 10 EU Cities on physical activity in urban environments.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Specifically,\u00a0Pedestrian Street project in\u00a0the City Centre is one of the Italian case studies presented in\u00a0the report &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/activeenvironments.eu\/download\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Environments for physical activity in Europe a review of evidence and examples of practice<\/a>&#8220;.\u00a0Besides the experimentation of the pedestrian area, two more events involved the citizens:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The &#8220;<strong>Choose sport for good health&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0initiative, that took place on Sunday 13th April 2014\u00a0and trasformed\u00a0Foro Italico into an open-air gymnasium,\u00a0where twenty disciplines of different sporting activities were provided;<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Car Free day&#8221; in Cefal\u00f9<\/strong> (Palermo) on\u00a021st Settembre 2014, organized to participate in the overall initiative of European Mobility Week, that showed the city commitment\u00a0to reduce the number of cars on the streets and promote sustainable ways of travelling and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, noise pollution and congestion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[su_button url=&#8221;&#8221; target=&#8221;blank&#8221; background=&#8221;#2f6eb5&#8243; color=&#8221;#fff&#8221; size=&#8221;5&#8243; wide=&#8221;yes&#8221; center=&#8221;yes&#8221; radius=&#8221;5&#8243; icon=&#8221;icon: file-pdf-o&#8221; icon_color=&#8221;#fff&#8221; text_shadow=&#8221;0px 0px 0px #000000&#8243;]Download the SPAcE report![\/su_button]<\/p>\n<p>The report summarises a set of data on the importance of increasing physical activity, showing\u00a0many examples of physical and social environments that support healthy lifestyles as well as a guidance document on how to address the major challenges that will be faced by the partners in the various countries in order to integrate active transportation programmes (e.g. going to school walking, using bicycles to go to work etc.) in the EU public policies.<\/p>\n<p>Project Coordinator, Professor Diane Crone from the University of Gloucestershire, declared:<\/p>\n<p>[su_quote]This project has the potential to have a real impact on EU public policies reducing the levels of physical inactivity in the partner countries.
