\"SERCo:<\/a>Within the SERCo Work Stream 1 “Mapping of social entrepreneurship in Roma communities”, 3 individual interviews were conducted in Palermo in order to collect relevant material based on experiences implemented at a local level.<\/p>\n

The president of the NGO Per Esempio<\/a> and the president of the NGO Human Rights Youth Organization<\/a> have been interviewed giving a relevant framework on the work of the NGOs in Palermo related to social inclusion and on the projects fostering the participation of Roma communities in Palermo. As examples of local best practices, the project RomaShare<\/a> implemented by Per Esempio in collaboration with the Municipality of Palermo, financed by the Council of Europe involved local stakeholders working on social inclusion and the representatives of Roma communities on researches and they experimented good practices regarding social inclusion of Roma communities, fighting against stereotypes and raising awareness on Roma culture. Moreover, The festival of the cultures \u201cMeet me halfway\u201d organised every year by Human Rights Youth Organisation and that is based on the vision that if the different cultures would be able to \u201cmeet\u201d each other thus a real and constructive intercultural dialogue could be established for all society.<\/p>\n

The last interview has been conducted with the Operator for the Municipality of Palermo in the Roma camp \u201cLa Favorit\u00e0\u201d, who is in charge of \u00a0mediate between the Roma community, the education system and the community itself \u00a0in order to have access to public services and fostering social inclusion and awareness on the Roma culture in Palermo.<\/p>\n

The interviewees work especially on projects involving Roma people providing \u00a0trainings and internships and mainly focus on education and empowerment.<\/p>\n

They highlighted the relevance of the SERCo project focusing on social entrepreneurship as something to develop at a local level to foster the participation of the Roma communities and give them more opportunities.<\/p>\n

The stakeholders\u2019 contribution and experience as relevant members of the local network working on social inclusion and intercultural dialogue gave efficient enrichment to the project\u2019s productions and content, providing efficient keys to identify the issues and potential solutions regarding the implementation of social economy and social entrepreneurship \u00a0projects within Roma communities by different local actors as such as public institutions, Roma community leaders and non-profit organisations.<\/p>\n
