\"SPAcE:<\/a>Actions plans for the development of urban active environments (UActiveE) in cities and towns across the European Union are now underway after the \u201cLearning and Sharing of Good Practice Symposium and Workshop<\/strong>\u201d and second partnership meeting for the project SPAcE – Supporting Policy and Action for Active Environments<\/strong>, took place on 5th<\/sup> and 6th<\/sup> November 2015, in Palermo hosted by CESIE.<\/p>\n

The SPAcE partnership, comprising of 10 partners from 8 EU countries came together to deliver a Good Practice Symposium and Workshop to present different case studies from each partner country demonstrating good practices in the area of UActiveE. This work is a result of the desk based scoping exercises carried out by partners. Final case studies will be collated into a new EU report \u201cEU UActivE Summary of Evidence and Good Practice document<\/strong>\u201d supporting active towns and cities and promoting the establishment of UActiveE.<\/p>\n

During the second partnership meeting, partners reviewed the project\u2019s progress and outcomes achieved so far and began to plan, prepare and develop the UActivE Action Plan<\/strong> that will be implemented in the towns\/cities of the implementation sites in Greece, Italy, Latvia, Romania and Spain. The next phase of the project will see the development of these plans by the partnership supported by the non-implementation site partners in the UK, Finland, Greece and Switzerland. Working groups will be established in each implementation site and these groups will include key persons with the responsibility of producing and implementing the Action Plans.<\/p>\n

SPAcE is a three year project co-funded by the Sport: Collaborative Partnerships action of the Erasmus+ Programme <\/strong>and aims to integrate active transport programmes (i.e. walking to school, cycle to work schemes etc.) into public policy across the European Union.<\/p>\n

Partners include: University of Gloucestershire (UK \u2013 Coordinator), University of Oxford (UK), University of Thessaly (Greece), University of Zurich (Switzerland), LIKES Foundation for Sport and Health Science, Fit for Life Program (Finland), Castilla La Mancha Regional Government of Education (Spain), Tukums Municipality (Latvia), Brasov Metropolitan Agency for Sustainable Development (Romania) and the Municipality of Trikala (Greece).<\/p>\n

The next partnership meeting will be held in April 2016 in Brasov, Romania, hosted by Brasov Metropolitan Agency for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n
