\"soc-web\"<\/a>What happens when 57 Partners<\/em><\/strong><\/a> who represent 18 European countries <\/em><\/strong>including 10 schools, 21 universities, companies, NGOs, national authorities, research centers, associations and adult education providers, decide to join forces having cloud-oriented education in mind?<\/p>\n

School on the Cloud<\/em><\/a>: connecting education to the Cloud for the digital citizenship<\/em><\/strong> network<\/strong> (SoC<\/strong>) initiative-funded by the European Commission<\/strong> under the Lifelong Learning Programme,<\/strong> sets sail and a promising <\/em>3 year journey<\/em><\/a> begins!<\/em><\/p>\n

What is its aim? To explore new and dynamic ways in education that align with the way we think, share, learn and collaborate<\/strong>, by exploiting the opportunities arising from the Cloud.<\/p>\n

The initiative was launched in the 1st<\/sup> European Summit:<\/a> \u2018Education on the Cloud\u2019 which took place at the Dais Conference Center<\/a> in Athens, Greece on March 22, 2014. 64 partners arrived in Athens, with more than 200 local participants, to attend an interesting event organized by the Doukas School<\/a> SoC Committee.<\/p>\n

The plenary sessions<\/a> included a number of distinguished speakers from both Greece and abroad who clearly stated the objectives and the needs for a cloud-based education: Konstantinos Doukas<\/em><\/a> (Doukas School – Conference Opening), Marietta Giannakou<\/em><\/a> (Member of the European Parliament, former Minister of National Education and Religious Affairs),\u00a0Prof. Kostis Koutsopoulos<\/em><\/a> (European Association of Geographers),\u00a0Karl Donert<\/em><\/a> (Innovative Learning Network),\u00a0Prof. Demetrios G Sampson<\/em><\/a> (University of Piraeus),\u00a0Bart Verswijvel<\/em><\/a> (European Schoolnet), Tasos Pagakis<\/em><\/a> (<\/em>Ericsson).<\/p>\n

Interesting workshops<\/a> which examined pedagogical approaches and <\/strong>produced guidance resources <\/strong>for teachers and educators, attracted the participants\u2019 attention and sparked fruitful discussions and exchange of ideas in Twitter<\/a>, LinkedIn<\/a> and Facebook<\/a>. The 1st SoC deliverable is \u201cEducation on the Cloud: State of the Art<\/a>\u201d which introduces the situation in different countries in early 2014.<\/p>\n

The SoC<\/a> Network had its first kick off meeting after the 1st<\/sup> European Summit on March 23, 2014. Four working groups<\/strong><\/a> were established <\/strong>which examined the various aspects of the overall goal on the impact of Cloud-based technologies and its applications on education. Each of the working groups focused on their own goals, objectives, activities and deliverables in their particular areas of interest. These are:<\/p>\n
