On May 19th and 20th, 2014 the progress of the \u201cFrom School to Community\u201d project was discussed at the second partner transnational meeting in Palermo. Representatives from EURICON (The Netherlands), Middle East Technical University (Turkey), and CESIE (Italy) provided updates about the project funded by the EuropeAid Programme of the European Commission and the Republic of Turkey. FS2C aims to encourage students and teachers from middle schools in the Ankara area (Turkey) to make a difference in their communities, thanks to democratic citizenship and human rights education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the latest months, a training guide was developed by CESIE and METU with the aim of providing guidelines for Turkish teachers involved in courses of democratic citizenship and human rights education. A non-formal approach led the development of the material, which was then used to train teachers from three schools in the Ankara region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The teacher training proved fundamental for the design of activities led by students themselves, and developed in order to actively involve the community in the understanding of human rights and democratic processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between May and June 2014, 85 students from 3 Turskish schools will plan and organise events for their communities, also utilising the materials they have developed with the teachers who took part in the FS2C training. Examples of products created by students include: a short film on freedom of speech, a presentation and a brochure on secularism, posters and slogans about women\u2019s rights and for fair elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
