\"eunufy_web\"<\/a>This Sunday (25th <\/sup>of May) in Italy, people will vote to elect the new European Parliament, while in some European Countries the elections have already taken place on May 22nd<\/sup> and 23rd<\/sup>. The European Parliament is the only European institution elected by universal suffrage: its tasks are to debate and approve new European laws, along with the support of the European Council.<\/p>\n

Coming from EU 28 countries, citizens of Europe will elect 751 European members of Parliament. Italians are summoned to elect 73 MPs.<\/p>\n

As a long established NGO working at both a local and European level, CESIE thinks there are very good reasons to believe in the EU and to vote, this time more than ever. It is essential:<\/p>\n

  1. Because we are all living in a time of deep changes. Crisis has made European Citizens aware that Europe can influence their daily life. European countries are strictly connected to one another and whatever happens within one of the Member States might have some influence on Europe\u2019s future.<\/li>\n
  2. Because nowadays voters have more power, due to the new rules provided by the Lisbon Treaty. The European Parliament has more authority in establishing the guidelines which will inspire European politics and in making decisions which have will impact our everyday lives.<\/li>\n
  3. Because the election of the new European Parliament will have an impact on the designation of the new President of the European Commission.<\/li>\n
  4. Because those who don\u2019t take part are always wrong. It is necessary for us to have proper and adequate representatives as we need to make the European Union aware of our needs. This is the only way we have to state we are finally living in the EU we have chosen so as to make our voices heard.<\/li>\n
  5. Because participating in the European elections is one of our fundamental rights as European citizens; moreover it is the only way we have to decide about the European system and its functioning.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD IN EUROPE! Let\u2019s start out from these elections! <\/strong><\/p>\n
