STIR (Safeguarding Teenage Intimate Relationships<\/em>) coordination meeting took place at CESIE premises on Monday 7th<\/sup> April. The meeting involved 6 project partners: University of Bristol (United Kingdom); University of Central Lancashire \u2013 UCLAN (United Kingdom); Norwegian Centre of Violence and Traumatic Stress (Norway); CESIE \u2013 Centro Studi e Iniziative Europeo (Italy); Applied Research and Communication Fund (Bulgaria); Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (Cyprus).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STIR (Safeguarding Teenage Intimate Relationships)<\/strong> is a project financed by Daphne III Programme of the European Commission (DG justice); it aims at understanding the existing connection between new technologies and phenomena such as aggressiveness, bullying and abuse among young people in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An analysis of the progress of project activities in all partner countries opened the meeting. In fact, partners have experienced difficulties in recruiting youths to be interviewed: in the majority of the countries where research has been carried out regarding abuse phenomena connected to the usage of new technologies, it has been observed that students are themselves incapable of understanding these phenomena, even when they have been directly involved in them, either as victims or as perpetrators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was also a useful occasion to reach a common framework for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data collected in each partner country. Moreover participants had the chance to plan the dissemination campaign of the research findings, through the publication of academic articles concerning health, prevention and intervention issues related to abuses in teenage relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since STIR is addressed to youths and it aims at providing them with tools designed to identify violence within teenage couples, the focus of the meeting has been discussed during an afternoon talk, when the representatives of organizations and institutions participating in the project explored ideas and dealt with the proceedings of developing a smartphone app and web resource for youths. Based on Edward De Bono\u2019s Six Thinking Hats<\/strong> method, this creative thinking workshop involved all the partners in an active and well-structured brainstorming, concentrated on the creation of an app. CESIE offered also technical insights concerning the concrete opportunity of realizing the ideas submitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposals collected during the meeting will be analyzed by national consultation groups of youths, who will work on the final draft for the development of STIR mobile app and web resource. All the youths may find both the products available for free before the end of 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
