{"id":51504,"date":"2013-12-03T08:00:27","date_gmt":"2013-12-03T07:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/news-4\/international-day-of-persons-with-disabilities\/"},"modified":"2025-07-17T15:33:33","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T13:33:33","slug":"international-day-of-persons-with-disabilities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/news\/international-day-of-persons-with-disabilities\/","title":{"rendered":"International Day of Persons with Disabilities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The General Assembly of the United Nations took the initiative of establishing December 3<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;as World Day for Persons with Disabilities, (resolution 47\/3 taken on December 14, 1992).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This initiative aims to promote the dissemination of issues related to disability, to raise public awareness on the concepts of dignity, rights and freedoms of persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In view of social inclusion, this day aims to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The theme for this year\u2019s International Day is \u201cBreak Barriers, Open Doors: for an inclusive society and development for all\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Social inclusion and equal rights are the guiding principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopted by the United Nations on December 2006. States Parties undertake to ensure and promote the full realization of all human rightsand fundamental freedoms for all persons with disability among which the respect for dignity, individual autonomy and freedom, and non-discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important to remember that over 1 billion people \u2013 about 15% of the world\u2019s population- lives withsome kind of disability. This is what the World report on disability, produced jointly by WHO and the World Bank, shows.
