\"Giornata<\/a>CESIE wants to raise awareness and celebrate with you the International Day of Nonviolence – the 2nd of October, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday – leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence.<\/p>\n

The International Day is an occasion to “disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness” so to reaffirm the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence and the desire to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence.
\nCESIE wants to dedicate today\u2019s attention, once again, to Danilo Dolci<\/a> (1924-1997) \u2013 a sociologist, a pacifist, a man that arrived in Sicily in the 50s and turned the nonviolent revolution into his symbol and that became first inspiration for the foundation of CESIE in 2001 as an organisation.<\/p>\n

The work of Dolci was characterised by the use of nonviolent methods (\u201creverse\u201d strikes, collective fasts, peace marches) and by working together with local people in the conception, development and organisation of every single activity. He also worked closely with teachers and university professors, as well as students and parents, in the grassroots transformation of the educational process\/system using an approach that focused on the needs and motivation of young people.<\/p>\n

CESIE has integrated\/transferred\/brought many key aspects of Danilo Dolci\u2019s work into its own educational activities including the Reciprocal Maieutic Approach<\/a>, a non-violence planning method (created and tested by Dolci for many years), with a strong focus on people.<\/p>\n

CESIE\u2019s current and past projects (Daphne III programme) that aim to prevent and combat all forms of violence, especially of a physical, sexual or psychological nature, against children, young people and women:<\/p>\n

Virtual Stages against Violence<\/a> project works towards educating young people about the risks of new technologies through theatre and the development of a video game for youth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

European Antibullying Network<\/a> aims to tackle the phenomenon of bullism as an issue of fundamental rights to be faced through a common European strategy.<\/p>\n

STIR Safeguarding Teenage Intimate Relationships<\/a> aims at understanding the existing connection between new technologies and phenomena such as violence, bullying and abuse among young people in Europe.<\/p>\n

Sunia Geel II<\/a> is a project focusing on reduction of violence against women and children of marginalized ethnic communities to ensure their needs for safety and support are met.<\/p>\n

REPLACE 2<\/a> represents a radical change to the way Female genital mutilation (FGM) is tackled in the EU, by developing a new approach that integrates individual behaviour change within a community-based approach.<\/p>\n

Stronger Children Less Violence<\/a> is a project with a focus on social-emotional competences of pre-school children.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Daphne III programme also aims to protect victims and groups at risk to attain a high level of physical and mental health protection, well-being and social cohesion throughout the European Union.<\/p>\n
