\"Giornata<\/a>As an initiative of the Council of Europe, every year since 2001, the European Day of Languages is celebrated on September 26. This occasion is celebrated not only in Europe, but throughout the world. The European Day of Languages represents the Council of Europe\u2019s philosophy that \u201clinguistic diversity is a tool for achieving greater intercultural understanding\u201d.<\/p>\n

The general objectives of the European Day of Languages are:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Alerting the public to the importance of language learning and diversifying the range of languages learnt in order to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding;<\/li>\n
  2. Promoting the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe, which must be preserved and fostered;<\/li>\n
  3. Encouraging lifelong language learning in and out of school, whether for study purposes, for professional needs, for purposes of mobility or for pleasure and exchanges.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    There have never been more opportunities to work or study in a different European country – but lack of language competence prevents many people from taking advantage of them.<\/p>\n

    How does CESIE contribute to support linguistic diversity in Europe?<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Why should you learn some strange languages like Slovak, Slovenian and Lithuanian?
    \nOr some other unknown language which is spoken in a country that you barely know where to look for on the map?
    \nWell, there may be many good reasons: travel, study, work, friendship, love, family, passion for other cultures… it\u2019s PROLANG!<\/p>\n
