CAT de Tercena is a foster home funded in 2002<\/strong> and is based in Tercena (Barcarena). It hosts 48 children and young people from different ages (average between 6 to 23 years old), victims of maltreatments inflicted by their families (ex: negligence; physical, emotional and sexual abuses; moral-legal\/educational<\/p>\n

maltreatments; drug\/alcohol addiction).<\/p>\n

The main aims of the foster home are:protection of children and youngsters from dangerous family situations, provision of basic living conditions, affection and safe environment, supply psychological care, make the diagnosis taking in consideration different issues (ex: health, social, educational, psychological, emotional, physical needs), definition of a Care Plan (Life Project) of each child and youngster<\/p>\n

privilege the child\/youngster integration, according to the community resources (attend to school, participation in sports, leisure, cultural and scouts activities), prepare the child\/youngster to the future: return to the family, adoption, longer stay in the hosting organisation or in other foster home.<\/p>\n

In order to prosecute these objectives, the foster home works in close partnership with Local Authorities to promote and safeguard the best interests and welfare of the children\/youngsters: courts, municipality, police, schools, churches, hospitals, food bank, employment centres, and youth organisations. The foster home receives support from 20 Portuguese volunteers that support the team in several tasks like school support and in leisure time activities.<\/p>\n

Tasks for volunteer:<\/p>\n

Leisure time (afternoon\/evening and\/or weekends: animation and implementation of leisure time activities for the children\/youngsters, with an entertaining but also educational purpose (ex: sports, music, singing, dance, theatre, handicrafts, watching movies, thematic conversations, etc.), organisation of sports tournaments (ping -pong, football, volleyball, etc.).<\/p>\n

Accompany children in outside activities of the foster home (ex: go to the doctor, take children to\/from school\/playground\/cultural places, etc.), assist children\/youngsters in computers use, managing the time and helping them to become familiar with the computer tools (ex: internet search, Word, Excel, Power point, etc.).<\/p>\n

Holidays (Christmas, Carnival, Easter, Summer) and Special Events, propose and implement specific activities related to the period of the holidays (ex: Christmas theatre play, build Carnival masks, games with Easter eggs, Summer camps, etc.), help to prepare the Christmas party (ex: decoration, presents, etc.) and birthday parties.<\/p>\n

School Support\/Occupation Searching, help the children\/youngsters to do school exercises, especially those with special needs; help more intensively in areas where the volunteer feels more comfortable (ex: English language tutoring, Maths, \u2026), motivate children\/youngsters to study and to complete their objectives (ex: with creative methods like games, music, quizz, etc.), search for jobs, trainings, occupation and leisure activities on internet to improve youngsters life. Improvement of the facilities and Organisation of the foster home restore some room, paint or draw in some walls to “give life” to the house organisation of rooms according to the activities to be done to organize the foster home: folding clothes, put the clothes in the children closets, arrange the rooms.<\/p>\n

The volunteers will have the possibility to propose and implement new activities, but must be discussed in advance with the hosting organisation team.<\/p>\n

Profile of the volunteer:<\/p>\n

Very human, self-motivated, creative, open minded, tolerant with self-initiative, willing to take on new challenges, very flexible and ready to help in different tasks, with good adaption to different realities and ready to live with different conditions and environments they are used to in their original country.<\/p>\n

The volunteers must be highly motivated to work with children\/youngsters with a difficult past and social background. Is expected the volunteers have a positive<\/p>\n

attitude, patience and good listening capacity.<\/p>\n

A basic knowledge of Portuguese, some previous experience with children\/youngsters and special interest on music (ex: rap, African music), dance (ex: hip-hop)<\/p>\n

theatre, sports (ex: karate, football, volleyball), can be an added value.<\/p>\n

Casa do Parque is a foster home funded in 1997<\/strong> that belongs to the CreserSER – Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Portuguesa para os Direitos dos Menores e da Fam\u00edlia (APDMF) and is based in Carnaxide. It hosts 14 children between 0 till 12 years old, victims of maltreatments inflicted by their families (ex: negligence; physical, emotional and sexual abuses; moral-legal\/educational maltreatments; drug\/alcohol addiction). The main aims of the foster home are: protection of children from dangerous family situations;provision of basic living conditions, affection and safe environment; supply psychological care;make the diagnosis taking in consideration different issues (ex: health, social, educational, psychological, emotional, physical needs), definition of a Care Plan (Life Project) of each child, privilege the child integration, according to the community resources (attend to school, participation in sports, leisure, cultural and scouts activities);prepare the children to the future: return to the family, adoption, longer stay in the hosting organisation or in other foster home.<\/p>\n

Casa do Parque is situated is an area where most population can be considered low economic class, with low financial incomes. There are many gipsies and African people living here. There are public social care organisations that provide services and support to the population.<\/p>\n

Tasks for volunteer: about leisure time: animation and entertaining, but also educational purpose (ex: watching movies, play songs, storytelling, dance, theatre, etc.). Organisation of exhibitions, presentations and conversations with Portuguese young people or future EVS volunteers to motivate young people to be more active<\/p>\n

or give visibility to their EVS project. Inform young people about the EVS experience as a volunteer in Portugal and also provide information about some aspects of the volunteer’ country (ex:<\/p>\n

culture, language, cultural places, etc.);<\/p>\n

Casa Pia de Lisboa – CED Santa Clara<\/strong> runs different foster homes located in Sintra, Estoril and Queijas that belong to the State. Each foster home hosts in<\/p>\n

abuses; moral-legal\/educational maltreatments; drug\/alcohol addiction).<\/p>\n

The foster homes looking for volunteers are located in Rio de Mouro (Sintra) and in Queijas (Oeiras). Preparation and monitoring of outdoor activities: accompany the children in “going outs”, visits. Accompany children in outside activities of the foster home, supporting the children and youngsters during their study moments: supervision of the youngsters, support in their doubts and most of all motivate youngsters in their studying tasks; monitoring and helping the children and youngsters in their homework and study hours, helping in areas where he\/she feels more comfortable, but also motivating them to study and to complete their objectives.<\/p>\n

Volunteers are also requested to animate and implement leisure time activities for the children and youngsters, with an entertaining but also educational purpose. Therefore, the idea is to have a variety of activities where the children and youngsters can learn, have fun and occupy their free time in a healthy way.<\/p>\n

Meals Time: include helping in giving the meals to the children and youngsters, but most important, helping in creating a friendly, funny and home environment<\/p>\n

during the meal time. This can include establishing healthy conversations with the children and youngsters, inquiring about their activities during the day, their<\/p>\n

problems, their needs, etc.<\/p>\n

Supporting children and youngsters in health routines: help the staff to assure that the children and youngsters take care of their health routines (shower,<\/p>\n

washing teeth, etc), setting the rules and teaching them hygiene habits.<\/p>\n

Organization of offers and house: separate and organize the offers from the local community like clothes, shoes, toys, etc; organize the house like folding<\/p>\n

clothes, put the clothes in the children closets, and arrange the room, etc.<\/p>\n

Preparation of parties and special events: as in all family houses, there are moments and occasions to celebrate or to have a relaxed, fun and happy<\/p>\n

moments. The volunteers will help to plan and create these events.<\/p>\n
