Nowadays, I know that if I say: we can\u2019t go on in this way, this sentence can be told by every reasonable Sicilian man, every Italian man of good sense, all aware men in the world.<\/p>\n
The old world is finished (\u2026). We all are full of respect, love and gratitude for those who have worked hard and realised before us, we must try to make the world more polite, to improve our life. It is impossible not to realize that we need a better world.<\/p>\n
(Danilo Dolci, Saturday the 11th of Marzo 1967 piazza Kalsa, Palermo).<\/p>\n
With these words, pronounced by Danilo Dolci, he ended a huge demonstration in 1967 known as the \u201cmarch of protest and hope for peace and development of the West of Sicily\u201d. There was the participation of dozens of peasants, families, workers and intellectuals as Carlo Levi, Bruno Zevi, Lucio Lombardo Radice, Ernesto Treccani.<\/p>\n
In 1967, the march was the peak of a planning work led by the lower social classes that for years had involved the public administration, trade unions, workers, men and women in the working-out of a \u201cShared plan of development for Valli del Belice, Carboj and Jato\u201d.<\/p>\n
It was a historical moment of participation and popular mobilisation for rights. One of those Italian stories that we must not only remember but remind and carry on with strength because of their actuality significance.<\/p>\n
In 2011, for this reason, a group of very mixed associations and persons decided, with the Stalker laboratorio, to retrace the route in six steps from Menfi (AG) to Palermo, passing through Santa Margherita, Montevago, Poggioreale, Camporeale, Partinico, Borgetto, S. Martino delle scale.<\/p>\n
A new \u201cmarch\u201d to cross our territory, listening to all requests, new relation-ships developing a common way to act.<\/p>\n
Today, more than ever, the subjects on what working are those of common goods and those of the defence of the inalienable rights of a person, as ethnic choices that focus on the community.<\/p>\n
Today and yesterday, the main theme is always the water issue. In 1967, it was the building of barrages, today the fight is against water services privatization. Now, we want to face very actual themes such as welcome to refugees, public health, environmental risks and the possible solutions for the crisis of agriculture, and the support of the Bench in the fight against mafia.<\/p>\n
Getting Trappeto, where Danilo Dolci started his non-violent action in the fifties, would represent a point of starting, in collaboration with Centro per lo Sviluppo Creativo, to focus again on some basic themes at the moment such as popular mobilisation, joined planning, active citizenship proposing a project of recovering \u201cBorgo di Dio\u201d with the aim to make it again a centre of research and action for joined democracy and supportive economy.<\/p>\n
It is a new opportunity for all those who are involved in forms of resistance with different aims and to question all together about what can be the present and the future of the different movements, to participate in a collective event of interaction and research.<\/p>\n
