With the conclusion of the first co-creation workshops and the series of interviews with experts, AMALTHEA is entering a crucial phase of its journey. The participatory research activities carried out over the first few months are, in fact, helping to build a shared<\/strong> body of knowledge<\/strong> that will guide the development of tools, methodologies and policies for a more inclusive and gender-sensitive approach to preventing radicalisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, the prevention of radicalisation and violent extremism <\/strong>has become an increasing priority for European institutions. However, the strategies adopted to date have rarely taken into account how gender, alongside other factors such as age, cultural background, religion or socio-economic status, influences pathways to radicalisation and the possibilities for preventing them. It is precisely this realisation that has given rise to AMALTHEA, <\/a>an initiative aimed at developing more inclusive tools, knowledge and policies through an intersectional lens.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To build this knowledge base, the partnership adopted a highly participatory approach. Co-creation workshops <\/strong>were organised in the various countries involved, bringing together young people who were invited to share their perceptions, experiences and needs relating to the themes of identity, participation, discrimination and radicalisation. At the same time, in-depth interviews <\/strong>were conducted with experts in the fields of gender studies, psychological rehabilitation, the prevention of radicalisation, law enforcement, research and public policy, with the aim of mapping the current state of play in Europe and identifying the causes driving radicalisation, the vulnerabilities involved and the institutional responses currently available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initial findings from the activities carried out in Italy, France, Greece and Romania<\/strong>, together with the analysis of the European context, paint a clear picture: the gender perspective in the prevention of radicalisation remains one of the least explored aspects in research, public policy and operational tools. Existing initiatives tend, in fact, to treat gender as a marginal issue, without delving into the role that stereotypes, discrimination, relational dynamics and inequalities may play in radicalisation processes or, conversely, in the development of prevention and resilience strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These findings are not merely a starting point; they confirm the need for greater investment in research, interdisciplinary collaboration and the development of tools capable of supporting those working on a daily basis to prevent violent extremism. <\/strong>Indeed, the research highlights a still significant gap, which calls for innovative approaches and greater cooperation amongst all the stakeholders involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is precisely from this collaboration that AMALTHEA <\/strong>has emerged, bringing together law enforcement agencies, civil society organisations, universities, research centres and technology partners with the aim of transforming the evidence gathered into concrete and transferable solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
