How can we ensure protection, justice and reparation for victims of organised crime and human trafficking? In Rome, during the European meeting promoted by Libera, CESIE shared the perspective developed through the ASIT project \u2014 a valuable opportunity to strengthen alliances and build concrete responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On May 3rd, 2024<\/strong>, CESIE took part in the event \u201cA Chance for Europe\u201d<\/strong>, organised by Libera<\/strong> at ExtraLibera<\/strong> in Rome. The gathering brought together representatives of European civil society, activists and researchers to reflect on tools and political proposals to counter organised crime in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Topics Discussed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Participants worked in groups on four key themes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n CESIE's Contribution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n CESIE played an active role in the working group on \u201cProtection, justice and reparation for victims of organised crime and human trafficking and their families\u201d<\/strong>, sharing insights and outcomes from the European project ASIT<\/strong>. The group focused on the barriers victims face in accessing support services and the urgent need to recognise them as victims in order to provide appropriate assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What Emerged from the Discussion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Key challenges identified include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n A key takeaway was widely shared: victims should not be identifiable, but visible<\/strong>, to ensure they can receive adequate support without being exposed to further risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The experience reaffirmed the importance of network-based cooperation among European actors<\/strong>, united by a shared commitment to building public policies that truly prioritise the rights of people affected by serious and systemic crimes.
