{"id":145814,"date":"2025-05-29T11:45:43","date_gmt":"2025-05-29T09:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=145814"},"modified":"2025-05-29T12:04:27","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T10:04:27","slug":"bottomuptalks-youth-cse-mental-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/justice\/bottomuptalks-youth-cse-mental-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Empowering youth through Comprehensive Sexuality Education and mental health support"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Young people today face unprecedented challenges to their mental health and wellbeing<\/strong>, often compounded by limited access to accurate information, appropriate support services, and safe spaces where they can voice their experiences and needs. Among these challenges, <strong>teen dating violence and school-related gender-based violence<\/strong> (SRGBV) <strong>remain pressing and pervasive issues<\/strong>, fuelled by persistent gender stereotypes, discrimination, and a lack of inclusive, evidence-based sexuality education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the recommendations outlined in the<a href=\"https:\/\/thegendertalk.eu\/manifesto-to-advance-comprehensive-sexuality-education\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\"> <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thegendertalk.eu\/manifesto-to-advance-comprehensive-sexuality-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Manifesto for universal access to quality Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE)<\/a>, it is clear that <strong>CSE<\/strong> - when delivered in an age-appropriate, culturally sensitive manner and grounded in respect for diversity - <strong>is a powerful tool for empowering young people<\/strong>. It helps them <strong>build safe, respectful relationships and understand their rights and boundaries<\/strong>. However, access to such education remains limited. Too often, young people are left to navigate complex emotional, social, and sexual realities without the knowledge or support they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is against this backdrop that we are proud to launch<a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/bottom-up-talks\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"> <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/bottom-up-talks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><strong>BOTTOM-UP TALKS<\/strong><\/a>, an innovative, youth-led project aimed at tackling teen dating violence and SRGBV across five European countries - Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Lithuania, and France. The project will establish <strong>counselling desks in schools and non-formal education settings<\/strong>, staffed by professionals trained in early detection, prevention and response to SRGBV. These desks will serve as safe, confidential spaces for young people, families, and educators to seek guidance and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To ensure youth are not just recipients but leaders in this work, BOTTOM-UP TALKS will form <strong>Youth Advisory Boards (YABs)<\/strong> in each partner country. These young advisors will co-design and deliver <strong>peer-education workshops<\/strong>, participate in a cross-country <strong>Youth Camp<\/strong>, and engage in <strong>\u201cjob shadowing\u201d experiences<\/strong> to build leadership and advocacy skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project also includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Training for educators and experts<\/strong> using the <a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/reboot-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">REBOOT NOW methodology<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Establishment of Sex-Ed &amp; Wellbeing Councils<\/strong>, bringing together key stakeholders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>joint media campaign<\/strong> to destigmatise conversations around CSE and mental health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National school festivals and <strong>advocacy actions<\/strong> targeting public education authorities and EU institutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through these multi-level interventions, we aim to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reach <strong>1,000 young people<\/strong> with peer-led CSE training.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide direct psychological and emotional support to <strong>at least 500 young people<\/strong>, along with their families and school staff.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhance the wellbeing of at least <strong>300 young people<\/strong> through counselling and training.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Raise awareness among <strong>15,000+ individuals<\/strong> - from educators to policymakers - on the importance of CSE in preventing SRGBV.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BOTTOM-UP TALKS is more than a project - it\u2019s a movement to place young people at the heart of the solutions to the challenges they face.
