{"id":141270,"date":"2025-02-21T16:02:32","date_gmt":"2025-02-21T15:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=141270"},"modified":"2025-02-21T16:01:19","modified_gmt":"2025-02-21T15:01:19","slug":"year-victims-rights-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/justice\/year-victims-rights-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"The Year of Victims\u2019 Rights: A call for action"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On February 22, the <strong>European Day for Victims of Crime<\/strong>, Victim Support Europe (VSE) will launch <strong><em>The Year of Victims\u2019 Rights<\/em><\/strong>, a year-long campaign advocating for a<strong> more just and inclusive society for victims of crime.<\/strong> As a proud member of VSE, CESIE ETS is committed to <strong>fostering awareness on the importance of victim support.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Victims\u2019 rights are a cornerstone of justice, yet <strong>many victims still face barriers to support, protection and access to justice. <\/strong>Through this initiative, VSE and its 80 member organizations seek to address these gaps by promoting three core objectives: universality, progress and engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout 2025, the campaign will bring together citizens, professionals and policymakers to emphasize the crucial role of victim support in building a sustainable future. Key moments will include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>february:<\/strong> Launch event at the Brussels Press Club \u2013 <em>Once Upon a Support<\/em> \u2013 celebrating 35 years of the European Day for Victims of Crime.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>may:<\/strong> VSE\u2019s Annual Conference in Lisbon \u2013 <em>35 Years of Victim Support Europe<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>november:<\/strong> <em>More Than Words<\/em> \u2013 a joint VSE\/UN event marking the 40th anniversary of the UN\u2019s Declaration of Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At CESIE ETS, <strong>we recognize the fundamental importance of providing comprehensive victim support services. <\/strong>Our engagement in <em>The Year of Victims\u2019 Rights<\/em> aligns with our broader efforts to promote justice, equality, and human rights. <strong>Throughout the year, we will participate in events, share knowledge, and advocate for stronger policies to uphold victims\u2019 rights across Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The campaign sets out seven key priorities, including advancing the recognition of victims\u2019 rights, integrating victim support into EU policies, and ensuring sustainable funding for victim services. <strong>By working collectively, we can drive systemic change and build a society where victims are heard, supported and empowered.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this regard, CESIE ETS, through <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/project\/asit\/\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">ASIT<\/a><\/strong>, is working to strengthen cooperation between professionals and institutions in the fight against organized crime and in the protection of victims of trafficking and exploitation. <strong>Aligned with the objectives of <em>The Year of Victims\u2019 Rights<\/em>, ASIT promotes a coordinated approach to improving access to justice and ensuring a more effective and inclusive response to victims' needs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Join us in supporting this crucial initiative.
