{"id":138707,"date":"2024-11-14T11:24:33","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T10:24:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=138707"},"modified":"2024-11-14T11:38:01","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T10:38:01","slug":"citizens-xelerator-local-actions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/adult\/citizens-xelerator-local-actions\/","title":{"rendered":"Citizens Xelerator: strengthening democratic and civic participation with the local actions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/citizens-xelerator\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><strong>Citizens Xelerator<\/strong><\/a> <strong>aims at fostering democratic and civic participation as a means to create a more open and inclusive society. <\/strong>Active participation in public life empowers individuals and promotes inclusion for those living in or at risk of exclusion. By promoting innovative learning opportunities, <strong>the project supports employability and improvement of personal, social, and professional competences in communities facing economic and social challenges.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project organised five <strong>local actions<\/strong> with the aim of identifying specific needs within specific communities and designing targeted actions to address or mitigate these gaps. In collaboration with the <strong>Euromadonie Institute<\/strong> in Palermo and the <strong>AUSER Association<\/strong> in Ciminna we created joint actions <strong>to enhance democratic engagement and skills development among adults and intervene in their communities.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The interventions regarded activities linked to deepen and improve the participants knowledge about democratic and civic participation, sustainable development, the interconnection between mental and physical health, as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One Local Action \u201c<strong>Support the Choir of Ciminna<\/strong>\u201d: In collaboration with AUSER, this choir brought <strong>seniors together, enhancing civic pride and cultural connection. <\/strong>Singing together strengthened community spirit and a strong sense of belonging, especially beneficial for seniors with limited recreative opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The two Local Actions \u201c<strong>Green Fashion and Sustainable Recycling<\/strong>\u201d: Led by sustainable fashion expert Sarah Ibrahim, this session taught participants to <strong>creatively recycle clothing, raising environmental awareness around fast fashion\u2019s impact.<\/strong> Participants gained practical skills in upcycling old clothes, supporting sustainability and innovation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other two Local Actions \u201c<strong>Mental and Physical Health - Dance Therapy\u201d<\/strong>: Dance expert Soad Ibrahim led <strong>sessions connecting physical movement to mental well-being, encouraging self-expression, stress relief, and empowerment.<\/strong> Dance therapy offered an inclusive space for personal growth and bonding between the members of the classes involved, which was precious for this area with limited recreational resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"138717\" src=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/media\/Media-3-810x1080.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-138717\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"138722\" src=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/media\/Media-810x1080.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-138722\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The<strong> local actions have<\/strong> demonstrated a positive impact within the small communities of Palermo's Roccella neighborhood and the village of Ciminna.
