The universities of Kyrgyzstan are undergoing a radical transformation thanks to DEFA<\/strong><\/a>. The management systems of Kyrgyz universities have not had the necessary financial autonomy to foster internationalization and innovation. Since 2022, DEFA partners have been working on a strategy for change and developing a model tailored to the Kyrgyz context.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project also involves the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education and Science, representing a significant opportunity for Kyrgyzstan to modernize its educational system,<\/strong> promoting an academic environment that fosters innovation and economic growth. Additionally, it aims to strengthen the institutional competencies of Kyrgyz universities<\/strong>, which can benefit from specific training activities and study visits to improve their administrative and managerial capabilities. International support and collaboration with European universities and CESIE are crucial to the project's success, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices in implementing more efficient processes and quality management.<\/strong> CESIE also continues to support the project's quality assurance processes, assisting DEFA partners in ensuring high standards of quality in their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting and workshop held at the Issyk-Kul State University in Karakol from June 12 to 14, 2024, represented another crucial step in the DEFA project. This event saw the participation of experts, academics, and university administrators who collaborated to: review the results achieved so far, analyse the legislative changes needed at both the national and institutional levels for the implementation of the Kyrgyz model, and finally define the project's work plan for the coming year.<\/strong> Participants were also engaged in a business game to simulate the strategic and financial management of a technological park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The benefits of the project extend beyond academic innovation and have a significant impact on the country's socio-economic development. Kyrgyz universities, through gaining greater financial autonomy, will be able to contribute more effectively to economic and social growth, engage with the community by promoting quality education, research, and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DEFA \u2013 Development of financial autonomy of universities in Kyrgyzstan<\/a> is a project funded by the program DG EAC, Erasmus+, KA2 Capacity Building Higher Education. It has the objective of implementing a reform of the financial management systems of Kyrgyzstan universities that favors greater university autonomy, competitiveness and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
