What are the conditions of prison systems<\/strong> in different countries of the European Union? And how are educational measures<\/strong> in prison changing? Comparing 5 EU states \u2013 Austria, Cyprus, Greece, Iceland and Italy \u2013 we compiled a comparative research report<\/strong>, as part of Road to Freedom<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research was conducted through analysis of data<\/strong>, official reports, and reports from independent associations working in the field. The points we addressed were diverse, ranging from general and statistical issues to those devoted to educational facilities and technologies supporting educational pathways. The main themes of the research were: the approaches of different countries to the issue of justice<\/strong>; the distribution of the prison population <\/strong>and the relationship of this data to the demographic data of the partner countries; intersectoral issues<\/strong>; approaches to education in prisons; the main gaps in educational processes and good practices to be enhanced; and the use in prison settings of information and communication technologies, commonly called ICT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second part of the research will supplement this data with primary data from a dialogue with educators and people in conflict with the law about the conditions of current educational processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
