{"id":116890,"date":"2023-02-28T16:09:22","date_gmt":"2023-02-28T15:09:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=116890"},"modified":"2023-02-28T16:19:27","modified_gmt":"2023-02-28T15:19:27","slug":"wings-women-economic-independence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/news\/wings-women-economic-independence\/","title":{"rendered":"Strengthening the economic role of women to prevent inequalities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Economic violence<\/strong> is to be considered as a <strong>form of violence practiced against women<\/strong> to keep them fully dependent on those who have the power of access to and control over resources, and to limit their ability to achieve financial autonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It takes <strong>various forms<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preventing women from accessing economic resources and from getting or keeping a job;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paying women\/girls lower wages than men for the same work;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exploitation of women in unpaid domestic work, childcare, and other family-related services, and lack of recognition of domestic work as a form of economic activity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the <strong>global campaign to combat violence against women<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cawtar.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Center of Arab Women for Training and Research<\/a> (CAWTAR), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, on <strong>December 15th 2022<\/strong>, organized a <strong>conference<\/strong> on <strong>\u201cEconomic violence Against Women: Reality and Solutions\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conference was designed to address the issue of economic violence against women, to highlight initiatives aimed at strengthening the economic role of women and helping them out of their precarious situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We took part to the conference presenting the main findings about <strong>gender inequalities<\/strong> <strong>in the Italian labor market<\/strong>, highlighting how gender gaps in Italy still contribute for the establishment of a socio-economic system where women become <strong>economically dependent<\/strong> on their partners. In a system where women do not have equal access to the labor market, a phenomenon as economic violence can easily occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At <a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><strong>CESIE<\/strong> <\/a>we work on the prevention of all types of violence, including gender-based violence (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialhut.eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">www.socialhut.eu<\/a> to know more about our iniciatives).
