{"id":110309,"date":"2022-10-18T11:02:12","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T09:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=110309"},"modified":"2022-10-18T11:02:47","modified_gmt":"2022-10-18T09:02:47","slug":"eu-anti-trafficking-day-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/news\/eu-anti-trafficking-day-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Combatting trafficking in human beings is our priority &#8211; EU Anti-Trafficking Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Combatting trafficking in human beings has long been a priority for the world and the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/instruments-mechanisms\/instruments\/protocol-prevent-suppress-and-punish-trafficking-persons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong>Palermo Protocol<\/strong><\/a> (2000) to prevent, suppress and punish trafficking in persons, especially women and children, supplementing the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime is of the highest importance as it provides a common definition of trafficking and sets international standards.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.osce.org\/odihr\/23866\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong>The OSCE Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings<\/strong><\/a> (2003) is a strategic, long-term toolkit, comprising advanced and comprehensive recommendations in the areas of prosecution, prevention, protection, co-ordination, and partnerships.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/rm.coe.int\/168008371d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong>The Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings<\/strong><\/a> (2005) is a comprehensive treaty mainly focused on the protection of victims of trafficking and the safeguard of their rights. It also aims at preventing trafficking as well as prosecuting traffickers.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/en\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32011L0036\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong>The EU Anti-trafficking Directive<\/strong><\/a> (2011) has been the backbone of the EU\u2019s efforts in combatting human trafficking. It sets minimum requirements for the Member States, including on the support and protection of victims<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?qid=1421925131614&amp;uri=CELEX:32012L0029\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong>The Victims' Rights Directive<\/strong><\/a> (2012) establishes minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime and ensures that persons who have fallen victim to crime are recognised and treated with respect.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX:52021DC0171\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong>The<\/strong> <strong>EU Strategy on Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>(2021-2025) underlines the need to enhance exchanges of best practices, including on cross-border cooperation for prevention and support; to facilitate advisory services by practitioners; to reinforce multi-agency cooperation and coordination at national and transnational level; to help further enhance support to victims and their referral in Europe and beyond; and to promote awareness-raising, research and data analysis.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/home-affairs.ec.europa.eu\/index_en\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\"><strong>DG HOME of the European Commission<\/strong><\/a><strong> via the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and Internal Security Fund <\/strong>provides targeted funding to protect and support victims of trafficking, and to implement coordinated prevention measures.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Different programmes have received funding by the DG HOME contributing to the implementation of EU policies in the field, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.project-amelie.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong>AMELIE<\/strong> - Enhancing mechanisms of identification, protection and multi-agency collaboration through transnational and multi-sectoral actors' engagement<\/a> (coordinated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kmop.gr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">KMOP<\/a>, Greece) aims to improve the anti-trafficking response system, by increasing the capacity of health care and frontline service providers to identify, safely refer and provide gender- and trauma-sensitive services to trafficked persons, with a focus on adult women.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/tiatas.net\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong>TIATAS<\/strong> - Transnational Initiative Against Trafficking in the context of Asylum Systems<\/a> (coordinated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rescue.org\/country\/germany\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">International Rescue Committee<\/a>, Germany) aims to improve early identification and support of trafficked persons at an early stage in the asylum process; strengthen common practices and measures for early identification in the EU and conduct safe referral nationally and transnationally of trafficked persons to trauma-informed care in asylum procedures in line with EU standards.<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.networksproject.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><strong>NET-WORKS - to ensure the long-term integration of Third-Country Nationals Survivors of Trafficking promoting job opportunities and work-life balance measures<\/strong><\/a> (coordinated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apg23.org\/en\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">APG23<\/a>, Italy) aimed at developing a holistic and durable integration pathway based on victim-centred and gender-specific approaches, with a main focus on preventing re-trafficking through job inclusion and measures to guarantee the work-life balance and the economic independence of women victims of trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation.<\/li><li>At CESIE we are coordinating <a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><strong>WINGS -
