{"id":110299,"date":"2022-10-18T08:36:53","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T06:36:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=110299"},"modified":"2025-07-09T14:46:05","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T12:46:05","slug":"research-digital-farming-europe-itfarm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/news\/research-digital-farming-europe-itfarm\/","title":{"rendered":"ITFARM: research on the current state of Digital Farming in Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/itfarm\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">ITFARM<\/a><\/strong> consortium has recently carried out a desk and field-based research to investigate the current level of application and demand of IT in the agricultural sector, with the aim to identify the current constraints and opportunities for Smart Farming and have a general overview of suitable technologies and equipment available on the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The findings of the research \u2013 conducted via surveys with farmers and ICT technology manufacturers, dealers and distributors in each partner country - show that the <strong>digital transformation process<\/strong> is yet to come in SMEs operating in agriculture. The majority of the interviewees make little or no use of digital technologies not only because these machines are expensive and not affordable but mostly because farmers lack the<strong> ICT skills<\/strong> needed to use these technologies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To overcome these problems, the ITFARM project intends to provide <strong>new educational opportunities<\/strong> for integrated digitization of business processes, following the new developments of Agriculture 4.0. Based on the findings of the transnational research, partners will develop an e-learning platform to support owners, managers and employees of farms to introduce and use ICT in their activities.
