My ESC experience was more than enriching. It was my first time living abroad and it had a great and positive impact on me. I volunteered at CESIE office, the first two months were online, and the 7 following months in Palermo. During my project, I was involved in different activities at CESIE, including project writing and in project implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the project implementation, the tasks and projects were various. For example, with the project manager I elaborated a board game dealing with the topics of social inclusion and global citizenship. I developed research about the use of art in adult education. I also had the opportunity to prepare the material for a training for professionals on how to recruit and support individuals with autism at the workplace. I collected best practices on digital storytelling to increase the dialogue between immigrants and host communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Finally, I participated in many trainings, including VOICE training about movement, the use of voice, the evaluation of our strengths and weaknesses and ideas for improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I also participated in FEINAMC training about intercultural mentoring and in COTW training to empower migrants to become key actors of their lives as well as autonomous and active citizens in their local context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was really an opportunity to work on so many different topics and to learn from all the project managers. The trainings were fulfilling. To give an example, COTW Training was an interesting way to approach digital competences, inclusion in the community and in the labour market. Talking about the different possibilities that Palermo offers to young people was a great and required activity for newly arrived migrants. One aspect that was very unique to this training: it\u2019s the link created between the trainees themselves and between the trainees and the trainer. Everyone got comfortable to learn from each other and to share thoughts. The language differences were not barriers this time but an opportunity to get to know each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apart from the volunteering activities, the experience was amazing thanks to my flatmates, the friends we made, the adventures we had in Palermo and in Sicily in general. I had the chance to visit Agrigento, Taormina, San Vito Lo Capo, Cefalu, Sant'Elia and Siracusa with friends from all over Europe. We appreciated the sun, the beautiful landscapes of Sicily, the palermitan culture, the Italian language, the laughter, and the sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
