Many young mothers<\/strong> in Europe experience profound loneliness<\/strong>. They feel isolated, invisible to and cut off from their own society, yet, most of the times, almost every one of them ends up coping with these negative emotions by herself. The invisibility and isolation prevent young mothers from responding collectively to such a widespread and common condition, which, hence, remains confined to the individual sphere and has devastating consequences on their mental health and future opportunities. How to address adequately such a pressing issue?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 18, the Need to Connect<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/em><\/strong> project officially kicked off. The project promotes art and creative thinking<\/strong> as tools to fight loneliness among young mothers and encourage their personal empowerment<\/strong>, while creating connections and support networks<\/strong> through which common needs and feelings can be shared and addressed collectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whole project will be built on the direct involvement of young mothers, between 18 and 30 years of age, starting from a preliminary needs analysis<\/strong> that examines the current situation of young mothers, the obstacles they face within their societies, and the gaps in existing support services and that will lay the foundations for the development of other resources. In particular, project partners will develop a curriculum, a training program and other open educational resources<\/strong> centered on art as an empowerment tool for young mothers. Project resources and materials will be made accessible and available on the Need to Connect online platform<\/strong><\/em>, as well as on the Need to Connect Community and Training Platforms, <\/em>online communities connecting young mothers<\/strong> in each country and ultimately working as national support networks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activities envisioned within the Need to Connect<\/em> project include trainings<\/strong> for young mothers, local awareness-raising workshops<\/strong> for young mothers and relevant stakeholders (e.g. creative educators, community centers, social workers, etc.), and other educational activities that will represent important occasions for connecting young mothers<\/strong> across countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
