Promote the active participation of youth to contribute to the promotion of peaceful coexistence systems in the communities affected by the project, creating an international network of organizations that foster cooperation and development among EU member states and Southern Mediterranean countries in the fields of peace education and social justice.

Context

The project aligns with actions aimed at developing youth capacities in social justice and peace education, promoting them within the trans-Mediterranean framework. The activities address the needs highlighted in marginalized communities, affected by severe forms of discrimination, and aim to strengthen the skills of youth workers to become peace advocates and convey the foundational values of social justice in the consortium member countries.

Objectives

  • Improve the key competencies of youth workers so they can include peace education actions in their programs and projects.
  • Exchange experiences, best practices, and methodologies related to peace education and coexistence among people between organizations and active youth workers in eight Mediterranean countries.
  • Create new educational materials for youth sector professionals to facilitate teaching peace and social justice to young people, especially in communities at high risk of social marginalization.
  • Promote the active participation of young people so they can contribute to peaceful coexistence in their communities.
  • Create an international network of organizations from eight Mediterranean countries that promotes cooperation and capacity building among EU member states and Mediterranean countries in the fields of peace education and social justice.

Activities

  • Creation of an e-book that collects best practices in peace education in the eight countries.
  • Creation of a curriculum for peace and social justice education that includes sections on human rights, the culture of peace in youth work, transnational relations, and peaceful coexistence between ethnic and religious groups through intercultural methodologies, and on cross-cutting themes such as citizenship, gender equality, sustainable development, and health rights.
  • Contest “United for a Peaceful and Inclusive Mediterranean” open to young people from the eight consortium member countries.
  • Meeting with local governance actors to map local initiatives and create a common strategy for activating citizenship in promoting social justice.
  • Four-day training in Malaga (Spain) to co-create materials on Mediterranean peace and social justice, with the participation of three youth workers who participated in the project’s activities.
  • Four-day training in Sousse (Tunisia) to validate the produced content.
  • Five-day conference in Palermo (Italy) on the state of peace processes in the Mediterranean.

  • An e-book collecting existing best practices in peace education.
  • A curriculum with sections on human rights, the culture of peace in youth work, transnational relations with reference to religious and ethnic conflicts, gender equality, and sustainable development.
  • Series of videos “United for a Peaceful and Inclusive Mediterranean.

Impact

  • 150 youth workers acquire or improve their competencies in peace education and social justice.
  • 450 young people, youth workers, local authority representatives, institutions, and interested organizations in the eight partner countries engage in exchanges and sharing moments to explore the possibilities of developing peace education competencies and translating them into action in their national contexts.
  • 200 young people enhance their competencies in peace education and social justice through various trainings studying human rights and the development of sustainable societies.
  • 800 people increase their awareness and knowledge of human rights related to peace and the peaceful coexistence of religious and ethnic groups through transnational methodologies and social justice-based approaches.
