Refashion for Good project strives for empowering teenagers with the 4R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink) philosophy of life to tackle fashion over-consumption focusing on its environmental and social impact.
Context
With the world facing the still-existing traumatic impact of COVID-19 pandemic, climate crisis and with war currently occurring in the EU, societies are urging for a healthier, greener, fairer “new normal”. Meanwhile another major challenge, climate change, remains of highest priority today, with one of the most important causes being our consumer habits. Industries of fashion contributes up to 10% of global CO2 emissions, making it the second most polluting industry in the world, consuming 1.5 trillion litres of water annually, producing wastewater containing toxic substances and causing 20% of global clean water pollution. At the same time, to tackle fashion-industry’s ecological impact, governments are urging for more sustainable practices and more education initiatives towards changing of mindsets. RfG project will work on the 4Rs (Reducing, Reusing, Recycling and Rethinking) idea, with a double focus: addressing fashion over-consumption but also stereotypes created from the fashion industry, to empower teenagers’ well-being. It also seeks to create an environmentally and socially sustainable – 4R – school community, shaping tomorrow’s changemakers, achieving not only greener behaviours, but also breaking down stereotypes and misconceptions, creating a more inclusive quality-enhanced environment through participatory methods, campaigning and community engagement.
Objectives
- To empower teachers with methods and tools to activate themselves and students towards 4Rs practices in fashion;
- To empower students with competences towards embedding a 4R way of living;
- To nourish RfG ambassadors to trigger change in the community.
Activities
- Development of a database of RfG Lesson Plans Package on sustainable fashion environmentally and socially, including pilot testing;
- Development of a RfG Teachers’ Training Toolbox including handbook, Off and online trainings and practical manuals;
- Development of the RfG Multimedia Hub with resources & showcase space for students and AV material for teachers.
Resources
- A complete Teachers Training Toolbox for secondary school teachers in climate change education & well-being practices for fashion.
- An updated Lesson Plans Package for students to empower them as critical thinkers & competent future changemakers equipped with 21st century skills and attitudes.
- 4R State-of-the-art educational digital, OER, transferable material, with tutorials, videos, podcasts, infographics, ready-to use resources, and space for showcasing students’ projects.
Impact
- 35 Best Practices collected;
- 25 teachers involved in interviews to develop case studies and existing training programme;
- At least 10 teachers and 80 students participating in the piloting testing;
- At least 15 teachers participating in the physical LTTA;
- 80 Youth workers/trainers teachers participating in online workshops, at least 50 of them reached through the project and 20 of them are using the manual;
- At least 200 students and 80 teachers will access the RfG Multimedia Hub.
