Objectives

  • To improve data collection and knowledge around the prevention of violence against children and on child protection policies in the field of sports and leisure activities by identifying gaps and best practices;
  • To increase knowledge and skills of professionals in appropriately preventing and responding to violence against children through a Capacity Building program and in implementing concrete safeguarding policies through the provision of online assessment tool for organizations;
  • To improve child-centered approaches to fight and respond to violence cases against children in sports through transnational exchange of good practices and the establishment of partnerships and synergies.

Activities

  • Needs assessment on implemented child protection policies, ethic guidelines and codes of conduct implemented in partner counties in sports/leisure/recreation clubs, organisations and extra-curricular activities for children;
  • Development and delivery of ACTIVE capacity building program for 160 professionals on implementing child safeguarding policies and promoting a safe and child-friendly environment in the sports and leisure-activities field;
  • Development and implementation of ACTIVE online assessment tool for 80 organizations to enable them to assess their competences to keep children and young people safe in sports environments;
  • Exchange of knowledge on how to create multi-agency networks and best-practice workshops on how to build partnerships and enable cooperation with stakeholders;
  • Awareness raising on the importance to have effective child safeguarding policies in the sport and leisure activities environment among children, parents, professionals, stakeholders and the wider public.

Results

Impact

  • Improved comprehension among leisure and sport organisations around the problem of child abuse and enabled them to self-assess their child protection policies for improvement;
  • Enhanced the capacity of professionals to prevent and respond to cases of violence against children;
  • Enabled children to participate in safe sports and leisure activities environments;
  • Increased awareness on the necessity to address the phenomenon of child abuse in sport organisations and on the importance to have effective child safeguarding policies among not only professionals but also among youngsters and parents.
