Promoting discussions with children about gender stereotypes and gender roles leads to the prevention of gender-based violence at a later stage of life. Acknowledging that gender-based violence is a violation of fundamental human rights, it is extremely important to start talking about gender with the little ones and to encourage gender-sensitive education at schools!
After the Universal Children’s Day on 20 November, 2019 and the campaign 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, we invites you to the conference “Gender education: preventing gender-based violence from a young age” that will take place on 2 December 2019 at Ex Chiesa di San Mattia dei Crociferi.
Together with representatives of the Regional School Office, the Guarantor’s Office, experts in psychology, teachers and students we will discuss about equality, the negative effects of gender stereotypes and the importance of education to prevent gender-based violence. We will also present the methods and tools that have been developed during the to stimulate discussion on stereotypes, gender roles and violence prevention.

About the project
The SAFER – Systematic Approaches for Equality of gendeR project, that is co-funded by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme of the European Commission, aims to prevent, encourage reporting and combat gender-based violence (GBV) fostering a systematic approach based on positive psychology and character education of children through the development of materials and training of the teachers.
