Have you ever really felt identified with the actions or characters in films, ads, videos or books about love and sex? Have you ever been addressed these topics from a young age? Do you address them with your students at school?
The importance of sex education
In a sexualized world, full of stereotypes and expectations, that is characterized by a prevalence of cases of femicide as seen in the last few months and where young people constantly receive mixed messages about relationships and sexuality, having holistic tools to deal with the sensitive issue of sexuality becomes a priority. In this context, a comprehensive affective and sexual education that includes psycho-social aspects, the body, rights, consent, needs, opportunities and responsible attitudes from different points of view plays a central role in order to fight gender-based violence and promote a healthy development of socio-emotional skills in tomorrow’s adults.
The project
ISEX offers a long-term program to support parents, grandparents, teachers, educators and teenagers (11-18 years old) in acquiring these tools needed to address human relationships and sexual education from a young age through a comprehensive approach that includes school and family with the aim of leading healthy lives at physical, emotional, individual and relational level.
The approach
ISEX utilizes the approach of Comprehensive Sex-Education, that is not only based on sexual risks avoidance but also on the positive aspects such as empowerment, affectivity, intimacy, body awareness, confidence, intergenerational dialogue and development of positive attitudes and values, through digital, educational and youth-appealing instruments, based on non-formal, interactive and participative methods, that can be combined with the school curriculum.
Comprehensive sexuality education is recognized as an “age-appropriate, culturally relevant approach to teaching about sexuality and relationships by providing scientifically accurate, realistic, non-judgmental information” – UNESCO
