What does resilience mean? Which strategies can help improve regions’ capacity to prevent and manage adversities? How can we contribute to such complex process?

On 4, 5 and 6 May, ReFace project partners gathered in Nice to reflect together on these questions, in the framework of a training organised by the Université Côte d’Azur.

Through a combination of presentations, meetings with experts, discussions and evaluation activities, an in-depth reflection on the topic of regional resilience and an analysis of the resources developed by the partnership took place, in order to ensure their highest quality and suitability for the target group.   Particular attention was paid to the ReFace MOOC “Regions facing shocks: building resilient communities”, with the aim to provide precise guidelines and explain key concepts to organise the testing of the online course that will take place in the next months in the project partners’ countries.   During the three days, the participants analysed the contents of the modules of the ReFace MOOC and had the opportunity to attend lectures given by experts on topics related to socio-ecological resilience, the integrated approach to regional and community planning, risk and conflict management, and project management. In addition, a final presentation on regional resilience in France took place at the Campus Valrose of the Université Côte d’Azur.

The training enabled participants to acquire practical and theoretical knowledge on regional resilience, learn new approaches to improve risk management and discover innovative and more sustainable solutions to strengthen adaptability to change.

At the end of these three days in the heart of a uniquely beautiful region, participants obtained greater awareness of their ability to actively contribute to strengthening levels of regional resilience in Europe.
