The final event in Italy for the Mental Health+ project took place on 29th September at International School Palermo in Italy. The event was led by CESIE and attended by 40 participants including teachers, school managers, trainers, health and wellbeing advocates project managers working in the sector of education and mental health provision, and school students. The final results, achievements and outcomes of the Mental Health+ project were presented and feedback shared. A practical workshop followed, were the recommended practices to promote mental health awareness and improve health and well-being among students and staff in vocational education and training (VET) institutions as well as schools through the developed Mental Health Champion Skills Profile were explored and tested out.
The project aimed to establish requirements for positive mental health provision in VET across Europe through the creation of governance and benchmarking tools and resources which will enable VET organisations to understand and improve their approach to mental health. Although there is a growing acceptance of people with mental health issues across Europe, particularly within younger generations, there are currently no official services in place within VET to support these learners. Therefore, over the last 2 years, the partners from the Mental Health+ project from the UK, Italy, Finland, Bulgaria, Spain and Iceland have supported VET organisations, as well as schools in general, to become ‘mental health positive’ by ensuring that they adequately support the mental health and wellbeing of their students and staff.
As the project has now concluded, a collection of resources have been made freely available from the project website that will help VET organisations across Europe improve their mental health provision through the application of these resources. These resources include:
- A MH+ Charter, which outlines the minimum requirements an organisation should adhere to in order to be mental health inclusive.
- An eBook, with country-specific information around mental health and best practices which you can incorporate into your organisation.
- A European report into mental health inclusion.
- interactive Mental Health+ Benchmarking Tool based on the Charter
- Mental Health+ Champion Skills Profile which helps you develop and select a Mental Health lead.
