Examples of best practice in terms of efficient methods to handle body-related critical incidents

 July 3rd 2012 was the starting date of the three-days second partner meeting of the BODY project, held in Elsinore, Denmark.

As BODY partners we had the great and unique opportunity to test the results from the collection and analysis of our Critical Incidents in the presence of the founder of the methodology, Margalit Cohen-Emerique, who joined the first day of the meeting. Based on two selected incidents from our practical field work Margalit facilitated a review of how to use the critical incident grid in a subtle and profound analysis.

The review gave rise to many questions, discussions and deep considerations of the core points of the method, for instance how far to go in the interpretation of others’ assumptions, values ​​and behaviors etc.

Thus, the meeting resulted in a deeper understanding of the meaning of Critical Incidents and the possibilities to act in accordance with the methodology.

During the first phase of research all partners have also sought examples of best practices in terms of efficient methods to handle critical incidents, where interculturality/multiculturality and body-related themes interact in adult education and adult guidance.

The publication of the Collection of best practices will be based on a micro level of understanding of cultural diversity (people who grew up within those contexts may have different value systems and standards, both personally and / or professional); promote dialogue and ‘interaction between people through non-formal take into account the integrity of the individual and, finally, be innovative and promote social inclusion.

Each partner has presented the main challenges emerged from the process of collection and analysis:

  • The challenge of recruiting people and network with concrete best practice experiences within the core points of the BODY project, i.e. the intersection between interculturality/multiculturality and bode-related themes as gender, sexuality, disabilities, health etc  in adult training and guidance.
  • The challenge of collecting a large number of best practices, which can give methodical inspiration in relation to the core points in terms of teaching and guidance of adult students.
  • The challenge of using a description template for the dissemination of best practices.
  • The challenge of securing relevance and transfer value in the best practices when passed on to adult trainers and adult supervisors in the ordinary educational systems of the partner countries.
