Is it possible to express yourself and get in touch with other communities through art therapy?

The final event of the CREATE project brought together local and international communities as part of a final celebration to showcase the project results and raise awareness of how art therapy has been used within CREATE as a powerful methodology to support the integration of refugee and migrant people.

The event was held on 12th July at Piazza Duomo, Terassini, Palermo and officially endorsed by the local council of Terassini. During the event, the local residents of Terassini, youth workers and trainers together with the art therapists and facilitators of the CREATE project learnt about art therapy and the experiences of the participants in Palermo who participated in the Dance Therapy workshops with specialist Dance Therapist Soad Ibrahim. The event showcased the different art therapy resources developed by the project and demonstrated the importance of art therapy as a tool for the social inclusion of refugee and migrant communities.

The event ended with a final public arts performance in collaboration with ARTCOM – ART supporting COMmunities through innovative tools for youth work project.

CREATE has produced online learning resources to support the professional development of new and existing Creative Therapists through the development pf approaches for professionals working with migrants experiencing from mental health issues, and support the services that exist to support refugee and migrants resettling in EU countries. These final resources include:

  • Training module for Arts Therapists working with refugees and migrants which promote partnership working among Arts Therapists (Art Therapists, Dance/Movement Therapists, Drama Therapists or Music Therapists)
  • Training module specifically aimed at the Clinical Supervisors of Arts Therapists working with Refugees and Migrants
  • Toolkit for resettlement stakeholders to support further use of the CREATE and Arts Therapies across Europe
