Measuring social impact can be a powerful stimulus to the effectiveness, transparency and governance of civil society organisations, as it may help them analyse the appropriateness of the resources used and how to eventually intervene to improve the quality of the services/products.

In order to provide CSOs with enhanced knowledge, skills and competences for effective social impact measurement, SIM4CSOs international partnership has been working on the development of ad hoc resources and methods, which will be freely available on the project website:

  • A Comprehensive report on social impact measurement, built on partners’ review of the existing ways of measuring social impact in their countries and on a training needs analysis (TNA) in the civil society sector;
  • A methodological manual, based on the results collected from the initial analysis and specifically designed for staff working in the third sector;
  • An interactive online platform, creating a digital space for learning and networking with other professionals.

All the resources were thoroughly discussed and finalised on the occasion of the final transnational project meeting, which took place in Oslo on the 5th September, followed by the final International Conference, a unique occasion to promote the project, its resources and discuss the current situation of social impact measurement in partners’ countries.

Though the project is now coming to an end, its impact is expected to continue well after its lifespan, as it will contribute to harmonising standards and approaches of social impact measurement across Europe, fostering the creation of a specialised community of practitioners and professionals.
