SUMMARY:Fostering critical thinking: the Teachers 4.0 project – tackling disinformation and promoting inclusion
DESCRIPTION:\nThemed talk – EU School 2026\n\n\n\nGianna Cappello, sociologist and lecturer at the University of Palermo, presents Teachers 4.0 Digital within the context of EU SCHOOL: a talk focusing on digital disinformation and the role of media literacy in building a more informed and inclusive school.\n\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you there\n\n\n\nTuesday 20 October 2026 | 3.45 pm – 4.30 pm\n\n\n\nOfficine Bellotti\n\n\n\nVia Antonio Gagini 31, Palermo\n\n\n\nIn an increasingly digital and multicultural school environment, fake news, informational bias, manipulated content and information that is difficult to verify are now part of everyday life in the classroom. Developing media literacy and digital citizenship skills therefore means providing teaching staff with the tools to guide pupils in understanding information, verifying sources and developing a critical eye towards the content they encounter online.\n\n\n\nDuring the talk, Gianna Cappello will explore the Teachers 4.0 Digital, which is dedicated to training teaching staff to tackle one of the most pressing challenges facing schools today: digital disinformation.\n\n\n\nThe objectives of Teachers 4.0 Digital will be presented, alongside the teaching materials and e-learning platform developed to provide methodologies and tools for recognising, understanding and countering disinformation, and for integrating these issues into educational practice.\n\n\n\nThe event will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the role of media and digital literacy in promoting inclusion, participation and informed citizenship, and on how critical thinking can help younger generations navigate the current information ecosystem with greater awareness.\n\n\n\nHow to take part\n\n\n\nIf you work in the field of schooling and education, or if you’d like to explore the topics of disinformation, media literacy and digital citizenship in greater depth, join the talk free of charge and discover tools and approaches for promoting critical thinking in educational settings.\n\n\n\nParticipation is free. Click here to book your place.\n\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you on 20 October at EU SCHOOL.\n\n\n\nAbout the project \n\n\n\nDigital literacy and tackling disinformation are among the top three digital skills needed for the 21st century. Teachers need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to empower their students to think critically, make informed choices online and stay safe whilst continuously building their resilience in the digital world. Teachers 4.0 Digital is a large-scale capacity-building action for the initial training and continuous professional development of teachers across Europe. \n\n\n\nPartners\n\n\n\n\nEuropean University Cyprus (Cyprus, coordinator)\n\n\n\nCyprus Pedagogical Institute (Cyprus)\n\n\n\nSofia University St Kliment Ohridski (Bulgaria)\n\n\n\nEuropean Association for Viewers InterestsEAVI (Belgium)\n\n\n\nNational and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece)\n\n\n\nAthens Lifelong Learning Institute (Greece)\n\n\n\nInstitute of Educational Policy (IEP) (Greece)\n\n\n\nALL DIGITAL (Greece)\n\n\n\nResearch Innovation and Development Lab – ReadLab (Greece)\n\n\n\nUniversità degli studi di Palermo (Italy)\n\n\n\nCESIE ETS (Italy)\n\n\n\nLodz Centre for Teacher Training and Practical Education (Poland)\n\n\n\nUniversity of Lodz – UNIWERSYTET LODZKI (Poland)\n\n\n\nMediawise Society (Romania)\n\n\n\nMinistry of Education (Romania)\n\n\n\nWest University of Timisoara (Romania)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor further information\n\n\n\nRead more about the project, visit https://teachers4digitalage.eu and follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin.\n\n\n\nContact Bruna Giunta: bruna.giunta@cesie.org.\n
