SUMMARY:Regenerating educational spaces through co-design with pupils, teachers, and the community – let’s discuss it at EU School 2025
DESCRIPTION:\nHow do students experience the school environment? What do teachers and the rest of the school community need in terms of their everyday surroundings?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe workshop, 'An innovative approach to regenerate educational spaces through co-design with students, teachers and the community', organised as part of the UpSpace: Upcycling and Regeneration of urban Space for green skills project aims to offer to the school communities a fresh perspective on their school spaces by inviting them to consider their value and how these spaces can be transformed.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWednesday 12 November, 2025 at 16.30\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresident Hotel Palermo – via Francesco Crispi, 230 Palermo\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nin the EU School 2025 parallel workshop session\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree attendance upon registration\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBook your spot here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy to participate\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe workshop aims to raise participants' awareness of urban and educational regeneration processes by encouraging them to observe, listen, imagine and be creative, in order to reflect on how space can influence the students’ learning paths and the well-being of the school community.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThrough a participatory co-design process, students, teachers and educators will be involved in re-evaluating forgotten or underused school spaces, imagining the ideal school environment.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis activity encourages experimentation through collaborative processes and introduces the theme of urban regeneration. Participants will analyse the needs of the school community and the structural characteristics of the selected spaces, developing creative and sustainable ideas.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThrough group work, participants will develop shared projects that consider functionality and sustainability, thereby providing their school with a renewed space.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe activity will conclude with the practical design of these proposals using recycled materials and creative recycling techniques.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop stages\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1. Identifying the space\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will identify spaces in the participants' schools for observation and analysis. How are these spaces used today? How are they perceived by those who use them (students, teachers, educators)?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2. Needs analysis\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThrough group activities and listening sessions, we will identify the needs and desires of students, teachers, and educators in order to understand how to restore the chosen spaces.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3. Design process\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will turn our ideas into a practical project using recycled materials and creative recycling techniques to provide the school community with renovated, sustainable spaces.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout UpSpace\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUpSpace: Upcycling and Regeneration of urban Space for green skills is a project co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ program, KA220-SCH – Cooperation partnerships in the field of school education. The project promotes the inclusion of sustainable development in secondary school curricula and trains secondary school students and teachers in sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPartners\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCESIE ETS  (Italy, coordinator)\n\n\n\nAppworks Doo Beograd (Serbia)\n\n\n\nStimmuli For Social Change O.E (Greece)\n\n\n\nBlended Learning Institutions Cooperative (Germany)\n\n\n\nIstituto D’Istruzione Superiore Einaudi Pareto (Italy)\n\n\n\nOsnovna Skola “Mihailo Petrovic Alas” (Serbia)\n\n\n\n5o Gymnasio Thessalonikis (Greece)\n\n\n\nFörderverein RUZ Reinhausen e.V.
