SUMMARY:YEA & CoRe: Poetic Celebration – Haiku, Suminagashi and Origami workshops
DESCRIPTION:\nWould you like to join us in free art workshops between suminagashi and haiku and add beauty to Palermo? Would you like to compose a short poem (haiku) while your ink drops float in the water using the Japanese Suminagashi practice? Or create three-dimensional shapes simply by folding paper?\n\n\n\nSo, come to our Art and Poetics Celebration and join us for free the Poetry workshop between haiku, suminagashi & origami.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you \n\n\n\non Tuesday 15 April 2025 from 5 p.m. \n\n\n\nat EPYC – European Palermo Youth Centre, via Pignatelli Aragona 42, Palermo\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpots are limited, hurry up and register\n\n\n\n\nClick here for haiku and suminagashi workshops\n\n\n\nClick here for origami workshops\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy to join\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExperience the ‘Suminagashi’ practice\n\n\n\nLiterally, “Suminagashi” means “floating ink” and is an artistic technique that involves painting on water. As the ink floats and disperses across the surface, abstract designs are created, which are then transferred to sheets of paper laid on the water. What makes each piece unique is its unpredictable nature and the absolute impossibility of replicating the result.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExperiencing the Japanese art of 'Origami'\n\n\n\nThe term ‘origami’ is derived from two Japanese words: ‘ori’ (to fold) and ‘kami’ (paper). With precise folding techniques, a simple sheet of paper can be transformed into a variety of shapes, such as animals, flowers, objects, or even more complex structures. The beauty of origami lies in its ability to transform a flat object, such as a sheet of paper, into a three-dimensional work of art with a simple yet refined folding technique.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBringing beauty and celebrating diversities\n\n\n\nDiversity is everywhere, taking on countless forms, times, and spaces, yet it can meet and unite in the name of a common cause: environmental care. With the involvement of young people, community workers, and youth center staff, YEA and CoRe have decided to celebrate diversity through art and poetry, drawing inspiration from nature as it has been represented in Japanese culture and tradition, to express human feelings and desires.\n\n\n\nEvery drop used in the suminagashi workshops ("floating ink") inspired the co-creation of haiku, short Japanese poems, in a safe and relaxing atmosphere.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to join\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to register.
