SUMMARY:Childhood and digital safety: current challenges and the SOPHIE method
DESCRIPTION:\nIn recent years, technologies have taken on an increasingly central role in social life, especially in adolescence. These tools have become indispensable for children and young people, offering means of communication, access to information, study, creativity and social participation. The 2018 Censis survey revealed that only 27% of young people interviewed connect to the Internet via PC, confirming the dominance of the smartphone as the main internet access device for young people (Save The Children, 2023).\n\n\n\nIn a digital world where children and teenagers find themselves using platforms that are not always designed for them, they expose themselves to significant risks: between the ages of 11 and 13, cases of cyberbullying are on the rise.\n\n\n\nThe challenge, however, is not just about social media. Many schools find themselves unprepared to deal with these phenomena, while the student population's knowledge of prevention tools is equally poor: only 18% of them know which figure to refer to in cases of bullying and cyberbullying in their school, while the 51% have never heard of it. (Save The Children, 2023).\n\n\n\nTo face these challenges, the SOPHIE project promotes a revolutionary approach to education, based on the reduction of early school leaving and on an ever-increasing digital inclusion, resilience and safety in the school community.\n\n\n\nThrough an inclusive and collaborative approach involving teachers, educators and families, SOPHIE is committed to providing guidelines, tools and targeted strategies to address the challenges of online learning safely and effectively.\n\n\n\nSOPHIE represents a step forward in digital education, ensuring that no one is left behind and that everyone has the opportunity to learn in a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHelp create safer online environments.\n\n\n\nHow?
