The project Appetite for Learning Comes with Eating – ALCE promotes the development of intercultural and intergenerational dialogue and acquisition of key competences (literacy, civic, entrepreneurial) of senior and migrant women. The learning modules for the target groups will be based on exchange of food traditions and natural curative methods. The project activities will consist of learning paths for direct target groups, cultural events, learning mobilities, creation of a book gathering traditional recipes and remedies, creation of pedagogical manual on innovative approaches to stimulate inter-generational and intercultural learning.

CESIE participated at ERROR Festival 2012, from the 30th of November to the 1st of December 2012, in Bratislava, Slovakia. Euromed at work for active citizenship – EWAC, a Training Course under Action 3.1 of the Youth in Action Programme, was held in Palermo (Italy) from the 3rd to the 11th of November. Participants, youth trainers/workers, peer educators, volunteers, youth with fewer opportunities from Italy, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Lithuania, Norway, Estonia, Slovenia, Malta, Turkey, Tunisia, Egypt, Palestine, Israel and Moroccoshared their experiences and knowledge consideringactive citizenship in their local communities and examples of youth unemployment.
The final evaluation & networking meeting of the project “EurAsia Wings” was held in Hanoi, Vietnam from 16th until 20th of November 2012. Partners from Italy, France, Vietnam and China have evaluated the project phases and results. This meeting has been the opportunity also to plan and brainstorm ideas for future cooperation between these 4 countries taking into consideration similar topics such as sustainable development, work in rural areas, art as tool to raise awareness about eco-citizenship, etc.
The kick off meeting for “Face to Success” – Learning Partnership (Grundtvig) – took place in Cawsand, Cornwall, from the 26th to the 30th of November 2012. In this project, there are six different European partners: Diagonál Magyarország Ifjúságsegítők Országos Szervezete (Hungary, Coordinator), CESIE (Italy), Grenville Battery Trust (UK), NC Future Now (Bulgaria), IKA Asociatia Tinere (Romania) and Naturfreunde Thüringen e.V. (Germany).
On the 13th of December four interviews with educators within the project “Supporting Vocational Teachers and Trainers in E-Learning” were concluded. The overall objective of this project is to assist trainers and teachers in the field of vocational and educational training (VET) in the implementation of dynamic, open and innovative methods by means of using e-learning technologies.
During two days, 26-27 of November, in the CESIE office in Palermo, the project meeting of the “CVE project – the Corporate Volunteering as a bridge between the world of work and schools” took place. The meeting was attended by nine people from all the participating countries: Poland, Portugal, Romania, Italy, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
On 3rd and 4th December 2012 the Leonardo Mobility Workshop took place at the CESIE office. The meeting was focuses on the “Leonardo da Vinci”- Transnational Mobility” and, in particular, the participants discussed on the priorities for the 2013 and on the possibility to create new partnerships.
CESIE is looking for participants who are professionals/interested in the field of social documentary photography for the seminar“Social Focus on Intercultural Europe”, which will take place in April/May at Riga, in Latvia. The seminar is focused on the photography as a tool to reflect different sides of the social and cultural context and of the life of different social groups as well. The power of the images as a way to promote the social and political change will be the main topic of the seminar. The aim is to teach participants how to use their art to convey the vision of the reality and the social situation all around. Moreover, stimulating social inclusion through use of the images expressing the feeling of belonging to Europe is one of the expected goals of the seminar.
Gender issues are still a crucial topic, even if many goals have been reached on the field of the human rights. The Training Course “Equality is given! Training in gender education”– which will take place in Pogradec, Albania from the 22nd to 28th of February 2013 – wants to train youth workers, youth leaders and activists in order to improve the gender equalities in any context and to make them become agents of inclusion who will act to ensure the participation of women and men with fewer opportunities.
Would you like to work in a green rural area in Tirol, working with disable people? The Arche Tirol community is looking for a volunteer under the EVS (Euroepan Volontary Service) programme to be involved in its activities in St. Jodok (Tirol, Austria) for one year, from October 2013 to September 2014 (12 months). St. Jodok is rural but not isolated area, as it is well-connected by train (hourly, 30min journey) to Innsbruck, the capital of Tirol.
After having successfully passed the selection process of the Youth in Action Programme of the European Commission, Action 4.3 Youth Support Systems, Balkan Assist Association managed to send one of its young volunteers, Radostina Vuteva, on a youth worker’s mobility experience to get some working expertise and learn new methods for improving the quality of support systems for youth in the social context. The hosting organization of the project is CESIE (European Centre of Studies and Initiatives), an non-governmental organization situated in Palermo, Sicily, committed to stimulating development and change in cultural, educational and economic spheres through the creation and use of innovative tools and methods.
“Feel It – Feel the difference” is a two years (Oct 20120-March 2014) project financed by the European Union (European Integration Fund), which main objective is to promote the integration of third country nationals in the Member States of the European Union. Its main idea is to enhance the awareness about the importance of immigration to increase of cultural and economic diversity, and, in consequence, to strengthen Europe’s global competitiveness on the basis of a common European identity. It thus aims at revealing the positive aspects of migration in terms of diversity and its manifold contributions as an enriching resource for a multicultural Europe.
Impresa Etica is a project that aims to develop an “enterprise culture” of the migrants, through training paths and work experience in the companies of Libera Terra, and of the company Libera Terra Mediterraneo, realities that manage field confiscated from organized crime. The Impresa Etica project was born and will take place thanks to the partnership of four local associations: Association Santa Chiara, CESIE – Centro Studi e Iniziative Europeo, Libera. Associazioni, nomi e numeri contro le mafie, Association Ubuntu.
This month we will conclude successfully the project “Eurasia Wings”, funded by the Youth in Action Programme of the European Union, which involved European and Asiatic young people and enterprises interested in the themes of sustainable consumption and development. After an initial research on good practices on sustainable consumption in the local and regional enterprises, young artists and not – have been invited to participate in the Eurasia Wings competition, in order to produce art pieces related to the 3R Art (Reduce, recycle, reuse), using recycled materials. The same work was carried out by groups of young people from France, China and Vietnam.
CESIE, in the framework of the project called “SOLE-Social Networks for Local Empowerment” (co-financed by the Europe for Citizens programme Action 1.2.2), is pleased to invite representatives of Sicilian municipalities and non-profit organisations to the session “Local Entities and access to direct European funding. A resource or a problem?”, organised together with the Municipality of Cefalł and Ancisicilia during the training conference “Financing of local entities and new taxation of municipalities” on 4th of December 2012.
At the beginning of December 2012, 39 youth and social workers and trainers from 15 different countries will take part in a training course about youth social exclusion and poverty. “MULTIACTION- Multiple actions against exclusion” (Youth in Action 4.3 Training and Networking), is the second part of a multimeasure project made of 2 TC, based on youth multiple discrimination and social exclusion. It was planned in the framework of the follow up of the EU Year 2010 for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.
CESIE held it’s annual IDEAS Workshop on 13th November at the Sicilian Region Brussels Office. It involved partners, “old and new” and had the objective of developing of new project ideas.
The kick-off meeting of the project Supporting Vocational Teachers And Trainers In E-Learning was held in Krakow (Poland) on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th 2012. It is atwo year-project, funded by Lifelong Learning Programme, Leonardo Da Vinci Transfer of Innovation Action.
Training organizations from eight countries (Poland, Croatia, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovenia, Spain, Italy and Norway) are working together towards the general aims of the project that include:
- adapt an e-learning course for educators in Poland to VET teachers and trainers learning needs and requirements in partner countries;
- support trainers and teachers from VET sector in implementation of dynamic, open and innovative methods by adapting and transferring validated e-learning course for vocational schools and training sector.

The countries involved are the following: Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, Kenya, Tanzania e Nepal.
During the INFO DAY about the several vocational mobility opportunities CESIE offers, there will be an open discussion session regarding the learning needs on skills and competencies to be acquired as required by the EU labor market nowadays. It will be presented the results of the research project – ‘WBLQUAL, An Approach to Qualifications through Negotiated Work Based Learning for the EU‘ – by including these under the frame of the Leonardo Mobility project “Learning By Doing” which aims to promote the acquisition of personal and professional skills for young Sicilians, in order to facilitate their integration into the labor market and the local Community.

Would you like to work in an specialized center in recovering exotic animals? The AAP Foundation is looking for a volunteer under the EVS programme to be involved in its activities of the project “Monkey business” in Almere (Holland) for one year, from January 2013 to December 2013.
The animals that end up with AAP Foundation often come from illegal trade, research laboratories, circuses, illegal zoos or directly from private people.
The kick-off meeting of the project “ProLang (Promotion of less used European Languages to youth on the move)” has taken place in Ljubljana (Slovenia) the 7th and 8th November 2012. The objective of this new project in which CESIE is taking part is to identify best practices for the promotion of less spoken languages in Europe among youth, in order to create an online tool to be used by language course learners and providers. This tool is intended to be innovative, attract test-takers and be enjoyable, giving also a diagnostic about the language skills of the user.
