Call EVS in Armenia and Republic of Macedonia

giovani The project is located in Gyumri, Armenia. It aims to facilitate the inclusion of youngster especially for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The project will facilitate the “European Corner” held by YIC.

Youth Initiative Centre is a non-governmental organization which

was established by a group of active young people experienced and well recognized in the field of youth work.

The Mission of YIC: Assist in the development of the civic activity of the youth through promoting youth initiatives and active participation.

During the 8 months of Volunteer Service the volunteers from Italy, Spain and Greece will held Language and Cultural Clubs within “European Corner” presenting Euroepan culture and language. The project will help to raise the level of knowledge of the local youth on European citizenship, get them to know other cultures, to understand that whatever is different is not necessarily wrong but rather a new field of knowledge one should acquire.

One of the aims of the projet is to develop the organizational skills of “Youth Initiative Center” NGO in Gyumri, share their experience and give practical advice on helping them to develop their own EVS projects by means of establishing long-term cooperation with the EU partners.

The volunteer group composed by 3 volunteers from Mediterranean countries will share the flat and they will receive language lessons in English and in Russian.

Tasks of the volunteer

The volunteers will work in Gyumri (where the Youth Initiative Centre NGO has its main and regional office). Their daily activities will revolve around the theme of cultural exchange and raising awareness about their culture and different cultural dimensions of Europe and their own country. He/she will prepare and conduct activities with local youth – the target group aged between approximately from 12 to 25 years. The target group will also include local youth from Schools.

The volunteers, with the assistance of the Host organization will also prepare activities targeting the general public and aimed at promoting European and their own culture and language – by means of coordinating language and cultural clubs open to the public, organizing a language club, preparing a film or music and dance festival etc.

The volunteers will also be involved in a wider initiative, involving the Host organization and other local partners, aimed at promoting volunteerism as a form of youth activity and empowerment in Armenia. A several day long public event will be held in Gyumri, with events, training sessions and cultural and artistic activities revolving around the subject of voluntary work as a activity for young people. It will involve many foreign volunteers working in Armenia and also serve as a tool for informing about and promoting international voluntary programs in general and EVS in particular.

The activity will provide the volunteers with an opportunity to work in a new atmosphere simultaneously developing their social and professional skills. Besides, the volunteer will have free time at their disposal which will give them chance to carry out additional activities and to spend it the way they would prefer.

Criteria

The volunteer should be active, initiative and creative.The volunteer should have artistic skills and be initiative as well as basic English or Russian language skills.

The cooperating organizations have developed a list of volunteers interested in doing an EVS project in a Eastern European state.

The activity will provide the volunteer with an opportunity to work in a new atmosphere simultaneously developing their social and prefessional skills. Besides, the volunteer will have free time at their disposal which will give them chance to carry out additional activities and to spend it the way they would prefer.

Encourage Research Spirit is really valuable project for the community of Struga which will help youngsters to gain research skills which they will use it in the future. The task of volunteers will be visiting different rural parts of Republic of Macedonia especially south west region, where they will make different researches about concrete village. They will take pictures and make videos with a aim to document the result from the research and also to promote cultural and natural heritage of the visited rural area. Also they will write articles through which they can describe and give historical information about the rural area and in the same time the volunteer will learn more for the history of the hosting country. All gathered materials from the researches and created promotional materials will be promoted on line on the web page of Centre for Rural Development – SEE. In the end of the project Centre for Rural Development-SEE in cooperation will volunteers will create a booklet where will have information and photos for all visited villages and also we will organize movie festival.

There is not fixed working schedule, because the project aim is promotion of rural areas. So you with other EVS and local volunteers will go to different rural areas of South west Macedonia and will make promotional materials about it. That’s why we need a very independent and creative volunteer. So someday volunteer will be in one village the next you will have to work on video or right article and similar.

Volunteer will receive 100 euro for food money and 50 euro pocket money(those money are enough for live in Struga because the average salary in Struga is 150 euro)

At the moment there are 3 EVS volunteers, the Italian volunteer will be the 4th. All of them are Polish. Volunteer will share apartment with another volunteer, but you will have your own room, full equipped, plus big room with a kitchen this room you will share with other volunteer, and you will have shared bathroom. You have heating and internet.

The common language of the project will be english, but you will have 2 time a week language course of Macedonian or Albanian language, because both of them are official languages in Struga, so you can chose by yourself which one do you want to learn.

The project lasts 6 months, from 15/02/2012 to 15/08/2012
