Fondazione per il Sud

Fondazione per il Sud, literally “ Foundation for the South”, is a private entity, which was born on 22nd of November 2006, by the alliance between foundations of banking origin, the world of the third sector and also the voluntary sector to promote social infrastructure of the Regions of South Italy.

The Foundation aims to promote and to reinforce its assets for social, civil and economic development of the South, particularly in Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily – the regions covered by Objective 1 priority of the EC Regulation 1260 June 21, 1999 – implementing forms of collaboration and synergy with the different expressions of local issues in a context of subsidiarity and social responsibility.

The Foundation for the South doesn’t intervene directly on immediate needs, but stimulates the energies of the land to produce responses to local needs, promoting the growth of solidarity networks, supporting ideas and exemplary projects that can foster local development.

The experience of a modern philanthropy of the foundations with banking origins and the local roots of voluntary organizations and social cooperation, such as places of active participation and of concrete exercise of democracy, are the elements that characterize the identity and the action.

The Foundation was created as a main result of an agreement protocol for the implementation of a plan of social infrastructure for the Regions of the South of Italy, signed in 2005 by the Third Sector Forum and by Acri, representing the foundations of banking origin, and with the adhesion of: Compagnia di San Paolo, National Permanent Consult of Volunteering at the Forum, Convolute-Presidents Permanent Conference of Voluntary National Associations and Federations, Csv.net-National Coordination Centers for Voluntary Service, National Committees of Management-Co.Ge
